PILATES FOR DANCERS is intended to be used for all dancers and non-dancers that wish to have a short thorough warm up before class, exercise or simply to start off the day with a body that's "ready to go". Attention to the intrinsic musculature that holds the skeleton correctly aligned is emphasized throughout the DVD. I talk you through all the exercises in the first version seen on the DVD. Once you are comfortable with the series you can forward to the second version that bypasses the breakdown of each exercise and allows you to go through the exercises without stopping.
Keep in mind that these exercises have been developed to help you achieve strength and flexibility and well warmed up muscles. Take care when first becoming acquainted with the various exercises. Keep breathing and remember to have some fun!-Об авторе программы
British born Julian Littleford moved to San Diego to open J.L. Body Conditioning, Inc. in 1990 after spending eight years in New York City as a principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, where he worked with Mikhail Baryshnikov and the late Rudolf Nureyev.
He is featured in "Who's Who in America" and has performed with Martha Clarke's "Garden of Earthly Delights" and the Toronto Dance Theater in Canada. Julian originally studied the Pilates method in England with Alan Herdman. He was one of Mr. Herdman's original teachers in his London studio during the late 1970's. In New York, he worked for and trained with Deborah Lessen at Greene Street Studio.
In 2010, Julian is taking his extensive expertise a step further - he was chosen among a very select few of the top Pilates trainers in the world, first generation Pilates Elders and top Pilates Masters, as a mentor in the new Passing the Torch Mentor Program by Balanced Body University (BBU). According to BBU, they have "partnered with the best of the best" of Pilates instructors to create a program that would help shape the next generation of leaders in the Pilates community. He is a founding member of the Physical Mind Institute in New York City and gold certified through the Pilates Method Alliance. He directs the Pilates training at Pilates de Mexico, in Mexico City and was the Director of Pilates for the San Diego Padres baseball team. He was the athletic trainer for Cirque du Soleil's Dralion touring show in Southern California. He continues to present and guest teach throughout the world. He is a regular presenter for Balanced Body University "Pilates on tour", "Pilates Method Alliance", "Pilates Style Magazine", and "Dance Teacher" conferences.

The exercise program taught is Julian Littleford’s personal system of Pilates body conditioning. This program has been developed over many years and combines his physical workouts with the theories of the late Joseph H. Pilates.
Most exercises are performed in a non-weight bearing position, allowing for little or no impact to the joints. Various apparatus and springs are used to create resistance and better muscle control. As one becomes stronger, the exercises become more advanced without increasing resistance or repetitions.
The emphasis is always placed on a strong supported center body, correct alignment, and a precise breathing pattern, which helps to reduce lactic acid build up in muscles. In turn, this greatly reduces soreness during or after a session. As the "core" or intrinsic muscles of the body become stronger, one's posture improves and the body is able to function without stress and pain. Large, more bulky muscle mass may become leaner and better defined, while smaller intrinsic muscles become stronger giving one a fine conditioned, balanced body and improved fitness level.
